When buying a Chihuahua puppy make sure you receive a health record of the puppy. On this record should be shown any worming (if such has been needed, as all puppies do not require worming), any immunization, such as for distemper, hepatitis pr leptospirosis - commonly known as D.H.L shots - or any medication puppy might have had. Due to local situations, other types of immunization may be preferred, but you should have complete information. The breeder should provide the proper American Kennel Club registration papers for the puppy.
Few breeders can promise and none can guarantee a future show winner, and you should not ask for a commitment of this kind. However, you should check the pedigree which is some indication though not a guarantee.
If you want a show-quality Chihuahua, you should buy an almost grown dog whose proportions and showmanship have developed to the point of better prediction. Such a dog is hard to find and expensive to buy, but occasionally it may be found.
You have the responsibilities of checking out your Chihuahua with your veterinarian after purchasing your Chihuahua puppy. It is highly recommended to buy a puppy directly from the breeder - you will notice many things about the puppies which indicate their character and temperament.
